The story behind Parc Astérix
Did you know? Asterix, or rather Asterix the Gaul, is one of the most famous comic book series in France and across the globe. Created by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo on 29 October 1959, it was first published as a serial in issue 1 of the French magazine Pilote. An entire world went on to be created, relishing generations of fans with the adventures of their two favourite Gauls: Asterix and his sidekick Obelix, not forgetting Dogmatix, the adorable little daredevil dog who follows them everywhere.
At Parc Astérix, our goal is to give our visitors a true Asterix and Obelix experience, by recreating a host of details and symbols that have made this story much more than just a comic strip. That’s why their story is told not only through the attractions, but also at our restaurants, our shops and even our hotels, where you will feel like you have stepped into the world of the indomitable Gauls.
The essentials
- The story behind Parc Astérix is about bringing the world of Asterix and Obelix, created by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo, to life in the real world through a fully immersive experience. Attractions, restaurants, shops, and hotels are filled with references that make you feel like you are stepping into the comic books.
- Three themed journeys let you follow your heroes: “Excitement galore” with Dogmatix (water play areas, walks, shows, and character meet-and-greets), “Asterix and Rewards” for thrill-seekers (roller coasters, bobsleigh rides, and high-speed attractions), and “Tribal triumphs”, designed by Getafix to appeal to all ages.
- Meals and encounters bring the Gaulish village to life: immersive feasts and gourmet breaks, especially at The Gaulish Inn with buffet dining and appearances from Asterix and Obelix. The park places strong emphasis on interaction with the characters.
- Shows and attractions are full of references to the comic book world: the Gaulish Parade, the Roman Patrol, and “Gauls vs Romans: The Match” (25 minutes). As for rides, highlights include Discobelix, the 4D cinema experience “Beware Menhirs!”, The Cauldrons and The Menhir Express.

Meet our famous characters
The first thing you must do to immerse or re-immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the Asterix comics, cartoons or films, is to go and meet the characters from Asterix’s Gaulish village. The whole gang of indomitable Gauls is here at Parc Astérix – Asterix, Obelix, Panacea and Getafix – and they can’t wait to meet you! This is the perfect time to take a family photo and, for some of you, to relive your childhood memories. What could be more enchanting than meeting these life-size characters who continue to captivate young and old.
The Gaulish Parade
All the comic book characters come out to celebrate during the Gaulish Parade. Asterix, Obelix, Getafix, Vitalstatistix, Panacea and Impedimenta parade through the park to delight visitors of all ages. This parade will really get you in the spirit and features a Roman tortoise and three new floats: Cleopatra, Caesar and the Gauls, with all the iconic characters from the village, singing and dancing. You’ll be swept up in the magic of Asterix and leave with unforgettable memories.
The Roman Patrol
The Roman centurion masterfully leads her patrol. In a tortoise formation, in Roman numerals, she commands them with an iron fist through the walkways of Parc Astérix!
Gauls vs Romans: The Match
In the comics, cartoons and movies, there are countless battles between the Romans and the Gauls. So, who will emerge victorious from this match: the indomitable Gaul or the invincible Roman?
Before your very eyes, three physical challenges will determine the fate of the indomitable Gauls, who are ready to fight tooth and nail. This is just a glimpse of what’s in store for you at Gauls vs Romans: The Match, the brand new show from Julius Caesar Studios.
Parc Astérix welcomes you behind the scenes to this new all-Roman TV production. You can remain comfortably seated in the Roman arena for a 25-minute stunning, breathtaking TV show.

Discobélix
Everyone knows that Obelix fell into Getafix’s magic potion when he was young… which gave him his legendary strength. So, when he decides to throw a giant discus, it spins and spins, never stopping, creating an exquisite perpetual motion. Are you ready to take a whirl on an extraordinary journey?
Beware Menhirs!
“Beware Menhirs!” is the first 4D experience produced by Dogmatix Studios. Playing at Parc Astérix’s new immersive cinema, it will transport your family into the exciting daily lives of your favourite heroes. Sounds, vibrations, smells, wind and water… total immersion to rediscover the indomitable Gauls.
Caesar’s Carousel
Although Emperor Julius Caesar is in charge of this family-friendly carousel, you get to choose what to ride. Whether that’s on the back of a legionary or in Obelix’s trousers, this fun journey is bound to be a success.
The Cauldrons
The legendary cauldron into which Obelix fell is a huge part of your heroes’ story. And just like Obelix, you might experience some… strange sensations. Head spinning, uncontrollable laughter: could there be a touch of magic in this potion?

Gauls... come and ride the train transporting Edifis’s cut stones. The wackiest architect in all of Egypt is waiting, but be warned, the journey will be eventful: ups, downs, sharp turns and speed… in this roller coaster's wooden wagons, there’s a good chance you’ll get shaken up!
Caesar's Spies
The Romans have been on edge ever since Caligula Minus told them about the magic potion! What about you? Can you outwit the Breton secret services?
Caesar and his legionaries are of course a big part of what we love about the adventures of Asterix and Obelix. So on this ride you’ll become the famous tyrant’s spies and will keep an eye on Getafix. Settle into one of the cars on this monorail and get pedalling so you can report back.
Getafix Play Area
Introduce your littl'uns to Getafix’s wise druidic ways. He’s devised an ingenious route to travel through Dogmatix’s forest. During their surprising journey through the trees, your little Gauls will encounter all kinds of animals.
Menhir Express
Obelix’s deliveries start in the Gaul area of Parc Astérix. The problem is, he’s got too much on his plate. Can you help? Watch out for the swirls and rolls on this turbulent journey. Careful you don’t fall, or you might get more adventure than you bargained for.
